Innovation by Bell and AudiSoft Technologies improves wound management through teleassistance for RUIS

SHERBROOKE, February 17, 2010 – Bell today announced the implementation of a mobile teleassistance system enabling healthcare workers at the Réseau universitaire intégré de santé (RUIS) de l'Université de Sherbrooke to obtain real-time assistance from specialists for wound management throughout its large territory.

The introduction of this teleassistance program will help facilitate early detection of infection, the development of effective and personalized local treatment plans and screening for new risk factors. Patients can also receive faster specialized care in their region and even avoid expensive transfers to major centres.

The wireless teleassistance system allows the on-site healthcare professional to treat patients with both hands during teleconsultation. During the transmission, the remote specialist can see the wound by controlling the camera?s zoom, while speaking with the on-site healthcare personnel to decide on the best treatment.

Called Frontline Communicator, the product is provided in partnership with AudiSoft Technologies of Longueuil, Québec. In the next 20 months, 73 of these systems will be deployed at 65 RUIS sites of Université de Sherbrooke.
